Eligibility

To apply for a scholarship under this program, candidates must meet all of the requirements detailed below in one of the following Groups:

Group A (Currently Serving Members of the Georgia National Guard):

  1. Current policyholder (in his/her own name) of the Georgia Guard Insurance Trust (GGIT) with a minimum of $10,000 life insurance coverage
  2. Current member (in his/her own name) of the National Guard Association of Georgia (NGAGA) or the Enlisted Association of the National Guard of Georgia (EANGGA)
  3. Currently serving member assigned to the Georgia National Guard
  4. Admitted into or currently enrolled in a program of study at a university, college, or technical school

** Candidates meeting all of the Group A eligibility requirements will be given priority consideration during the assigning of scholarship awards
** ONLY Georgia National Guard members are qualified to apply for a scholarship for Graduate studies.

Group B (Dependents of Groups A & C):

  1. A dependent is the Spouse, Child, Step-Child, or Grandchild of a person in Groups A & C
  2. The dependent must have been recently admitted or currently enrolled in a program of study at a university, college or technical school.

Group C (Retirees of the Georgia National Guard):

  1. Current policyholder of the Georgia Guard Insurance Trust (GGTI) with a minimum of $10,000 life insurance coverage
  2. Current member of the National Guard Association of Georgia (NGAGA) or the Enlisted Association of the National Guard of Georgia (EANGGA)

Awards

Up to Ten (10) $3,000.00 Scholarships will be awarded each calendar year, pending funding.

Additional scholarships of a lesser amount may be awarded pending availability of funds.

Criteria

Eligible scholarship candidates must meet or exceed the following standards:

Applicants who ARE NOT currently enrolled in a university, college, or technical school:

SAT score = 1000, or ACT score = 19, or Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) = 3.0

Applicants who ARE currently enrolled at a university, college, or technical school:

Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) = 3.0

All:

  1. Written proof of acceptance into an institution of higher learning is required and must be included with the application.
  2. Drilling Guard members ONLY may be half-time (minimum 6 semester hours). Guard members enrolled half-time are eligible for $1,000 scholarships only.
  3. Dependent applicants must be full-time (12 semester hours).
  4. Applicants must be of good character.
  5. Applicants should show evidence of some academic, athletic, or community service achievement.
  6. Technical/Vocational school applicants must meet the standards for a degree/diploma program in REGULAR PROGRAM ADMISSION STATUS.

***APPLICATIONS ARE ACCEPTED FROM JANUARY 1ST – APRIL 15TH OF EACH YEAR.  ALL APPLICATIONS AND SUPPORTING DOCUMENTATION MUST BE RECEIVED INTO THE GGIT OFFICE NO LATER THAN APRIL 15TH OF EACH YEAR.  ANY APPLICATION (OR SUPPORTING DOCUMENT) RECEIVED AFTER APRIL 15th WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED. 

ALL SCHOLARSHIPS WILL BE AWARDED IN THE SUMMER FOR THE FALL SEMESTER OF THAT YEAR.  APPLICANTS WILL BE NOTIFIED, IN WRITING, BY THE GEORGIA GUARD INSURANCE TRUST OF THEIR SELECTION/NON-SELECTION AND THE AMOUNT OF SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED.
